Kalulu makes it easier to learn reading decoding
Research shows that at the beginning of first grade, the teacher should focus on grapheme-phoneme correspondences: each child should have learned between 12 and 14 in the first six weeks of school. This is why Kalulu pedagogy focuses on decoding.
In Kalulu, each grapheme-phoneme correspondence is introduced explicitly. The Kalulu software is based on the rational order taken from the Manulex database (www.manulex.org), a corpus created from 54 children's books. Learning begins with vowels, then consonants and some very regular graphemes like ‘ch’. Once these basics have been mastered, we move on to phonemes which are represented by several different graphemes, to complex sounds, and to correspondences which are rarer in French.
